It was a thrill to see the variety of vegan lunch options available at twenty three; their salads and mixed dishes were on display and left us making a mental note to go back at lunchtime.

However, we were there for breakfast. We were advised their mushroom dish is vegan if made without clarified butter; so that’s what we ordered. It’s hard to look past mushrooms for breakfast on a miserably rainy Sunday!

They were nice, but not amazing. Mildly seasoned with herbs, garlic, salt and olive oil, and served on plain sourdough, they weren’t memorable. Their home-made chutney – served in bottles on each of the tables – did a reasonable job of livening the meal up.

Because the cabinet fare looked so appealing, I’ll definitely be popping in for lunch next time.
