Mimosa Café is clear about its vegan-friendliness before you even walk in the door thanks to a window emblazoned with ‘I Heart Vegan’. This Takapuna café by the same people as Janken in Ponsonby is a great local for North Shore vegans with a selection of plant-based breakfast, lunch and cabinet offerings amongst the vegetarian fare.
Our favourite is the tofu benedict, served with wilted kale, tempeh ‘bacon’, eggy tofu and a delicious turmeric yellow hollandaise sauce. And if you’re not in a savoury mood, the cinnamon waffles with hokey pokey and ice cream are pure, indulgent perfection. The team at Mimosa also make a great coffee.
In the cabinets, you’ll find a range of baked goods as well as raw vegan treats, ready-made salads and sandwiches – perfect for anyone who needs to swing by for lunch-to-go.
It’s also a sweet fit-out in the cafe, with a large shared table, a sunny courtyard out the back, plenty of magazines, knick-knacks and other curios.
After Cosset in Mt Albert closed its doors all those years ago, this has become the next best option for a cosy, almost-vegan place to while away a Sunday morning.
